Putting the car back together now and the foam liner that sits in the drivers side ducting has disintegrated
Is it necessary if so can I get or make one

I left mine in the ducting, i think it acts as a sound deadener. You can get upholstery foam on ebay quite cheaply

I think Jimmy is correct, they are to help stop the pipe resonating from wind noise etc...

I took mine out, no issues so far

Older cars didn't have the foam

It does seem a strange idea as any water that gets in surely just sits there and rots the foam then you are forcing damp air into the car and heater

I am debating whether to remove it or not when I rebuild,hmmmm?.Steve..
