Hi all,

Diagnosing a rattle I've had on the rear of my Mini since I rebuilt it. FINALLY found the source.

When rear jacked up, wheel off and suspension resting if you grab the drum and move it up and down you can see noticeable play from the damper to the stub axle. Everything is tightened up.

Surely this isn't right as they are brand new KYB gas adjust dampers and off the shelf refurbished Minispares radius arms. So almost everything is new.

Next question; can I buy new inserts for the KYB so they are a snug fit?

Does your shock have the steel sleeve in it now? I put an extra washer on mine too to take up some space on the sides.

It turns out it did need nipped up - i think i might replace the nyloc on the stub axle with twin nut's that i can lock together. I think gradually the action of the radius arm going up and down loosens the bolt a little bit...

 

I have a washer on both sides of the shock, just single washers - is that what you have on yours originally?

Nylon will be sufficient, torque to spec
