Hello,
My name is Alan. I've been a mini fan for many years. My first car was a mini van back in the early 70's. I had a clubman that I put an 1100, then 1275 in. Had a blue steel traveller that got written off when someone ran into the back of it, very sad. Then a long break until I saw an add in the local paper, around 1989 I think. It was a 1967 tartan red trav, all steel (and rust) again. I went to see it. Short test drive and I was hooked. It had a long MOT so I ran it until that ran out, then restored it, but on a budget. Non gen panels and a cheap respray. It was my daily driver and family car, I clocked 80,000 miles before taking it off the road for another rebuild. When I got it it'd already lost its original engine. I changed that for a complete A+ lump from and 86 car, still a 998. My missus couldn't get on with the wand change but I wish I still had that. It was part of the character of the car. I did a lot of work on the car back in the 2000's but it just ground to a halt. Looking at some pictures the other day 2009 was the last time I worked on it!
Now I find myself with a bit of spare cash and a lot of spare time! And no space!!
So stage one (normally tuning!) is building a storage shed so I can clear working space in my garage. I also have a motor bike in the way but I hope that won't take too long to sort.
The 998 A+ was running okay when I took the car off the road so is probably still viable. I also have a complete MG Metro lump that I rebuilt, ran in the Metro for a few years and kept when I scrapped the car due to rust.
One last thing, my daughter wants the car at her wedding in September 2021. She lives in County Durham and the wedding venue is close to the Scottish border.
You'll be hearing from me again
Alan.
