I'm stripping out the interior of my 96 Equinox to seek and destroy any lurking rust.

The heavy felt, rubber backed sound deadening on the bulkhead/Inner arches is crumbling at the bottom, plus it is saturated with brake fluid from a now fixed clutch master cylinder incident.

I like a quieter car in my old age but this stuff is no longer available as far as I'm aware. I know from experience how much this sound deadening helps.

Has anyone used the sound deadening kits from minispares that are available? Do they work? It looks to be nowhere near as thick as the moulded original but I think I'm going to have to throw them away?

i'd love to know the answer to this question as well.

I think the fact that the sound insulation had the thick rubber backing as well as the moisture trapping foam helped. It sort of provided another, if flexible, bulk head to stop sound travelling through.

In my 75gt I used a felt soundproofing kit from minisport and on top of that I put a layer of 8mm self adhesive closed cell foam on every metal surface from the bottom of the windows down, including behind the dash, behind and under the rear seat, behind the rear quarter panels and parcel shelf the car went from unbearable to quiet as a mouse.

My mate says he can get self adhesive stuff they use for insulation on air handling units.

It's about density though with sound insulation isn't it? If it's too light there's not much point to it

I've had success with this stuff. I used the sound deadening on parts of the floor, inner arches, and rear shelf. Then did thinner sound insulation all over the floor, and thicker along the inner firewall and under the bonnet. It helped a lot and I don't have to worry about it trapping moisture.
