Hi,

I'm wondering if I could ask for some guidance on twin HS2 linkages?

We've bought a set of ex-1300GT twin SUs and I'm struggling to understand the throttle linkage.

I can't quite work out how to add the images into the post here (seem too large) but have added to a Google Photos link below.

https://photos.app.g...yuoHdQhHhTSvXEA

I'm somewhat perplexed in a few places:

- I seem to have two areas where the throttle could attach, an L-shaped piece (label A in image #1) and a cable spindle (label C in image #3) which attaches nicely to the springs on the heat shield.

- Neither of these areas seem to align with cable mount (label B, image #2)

- The L-shaped piece (A) rotates freely around the throttle spindle and doesn't seem to properly open the throttles when the carbs are on the bench or in the car.

- Looking at an aftermarket linkage from MiniSpares (link below), it seems to be in a complete different orientation again, where the throttle link and carb linkage lugs are all pointing in the same direction where as mine are offset.

Safe to say... I'm completely confused!

It's our first post on here so grateful for any help, advice or a photo of your setup to compare!

(P.S... yes, lots of debate about twin vs single carb but we thought it might be fun to try - and the original HS4 is still around if we don't like it!)

I've never seen linkage quite like yours.
I've had twin hs2's and hs4's and they've both had the same linkage. These are HS4'S but the linkage was stolen from a wolseley kestrel with twin hs2's and shortened.

Thanks imack - that's very helpful.

Looks like your linkage is this one:

http://www.minispare...px|Back to shop

Which I've added to my minispares order so at least I have all the options in hand!

Noticed the maniflow inlet in your photos - could be very tempted by one of those... however I've just seen the notes you posted when you installed yours and I definitely don't have the welding skills for that job.(http://www.theminifo...in-su-manifold/). Assuming I'm going to have to take the carbs off again to sort this linkage, maybe I'll have a look at using the Dremel on the internals as suggested by Viszard to improve the one I've got.

If anyone else drops by and has a picture of their setup to compare, I'd be very grateful!

Thanks!

What you had on your carbs was just part of the original 1300GT linkage, but then again if the full linkage had been there it may have been equally confusing as it's grossly over engineered!

Don't have a fully assembled set to hand but have photographed the linkage off the manifold. Operationally the differences are the throttle cable on a 1300GT has a fixed ferrule at both ends so the adjustment at the carb end is accomplished by a trunnion nut in a slot. The middle tension spring goes the opposite direction to that on a mini and attaches to the air filter box. Somewhere in the middle a complicated linkage is designed to give the throttle control more finesse....

Can assemble it onto a set of carbs and photograph if interested but I did actually use this arrangement on my first set of twin SU's way back in 1990 and it was as I recall something of a faff!

Hi Roger - thank you so much for the photo - that helps massively!

I have had a ferret around and found the equivalent to that (which I'd never really known what to do with), and I do have a lug on my Cooper S airbox that would support the spring.

I've got the various standards of linkage on the way from MiniSpares:

- original butterfly (as per imack, http://www.minispare...sic/12A310.aspx)

- revised linkage (http://www.minispare...px|Back to shop)

In addition to the 1300GT linkage that I've got.

Would you be able to help suggest which is most appropriate? I've got the carbs off in anticipation of changing it so can send any info required.

Another quick questions on manifolds - I've got a Mk3 Cooper S manifold which looks to have some expansion on the carburettor end but probably not the full Viszard mods to the centre pipe. Any preference of original vs Minispares?

Many thanks again for your help!
