Hi all, I’m rebuilding the drive shafts on my mk1 Cooper,it has the small type cv joints ,I’ve fitted the large clips supplied but when I fit the hub the clip stops it rotating, I have replaced the clip with wire and this seems to work.Has anyone come across this problem cheers.

I use these type of bands, but you need the tensioning tool to install them. Nice low profile clamp.

Any generic parts shop. It's a "cv banding tool"

If you can’t find anywhere nearby that’s open. Amazon have them

I am about to try some SS ties that come from Bunnings (local hardware chain in Australia - auto section) They are like cable ties but have a much lower profile as they use a small ball bearing to jam the overlapped section from moving backwards. Also they were $4 for a pack of 10. :-)

Moved from fuel injection to “normal” tech section for more interest

Long ago I found this issue.

I use tie wire or stainless steel cable ties.

Another option is a 'Flatie' Cable tie. CBS have these, but use two of the smaller ones as the bigger ones are too wide.

I saw these as well: how did you get on? Worth a try or not?

The thing with the Stainless Ties is getting them tight enough, When pulled up, because of the way they lock, they actually 'slip' back a far bit compared to just about any other tie. I could never really get them tight enough using ordinary tools, you really need a cable tie gun that's suitable for stainless ties to get these tight enough.

Agreed. I found some flat style plastic cable ties on amazon, and they are the correct width - they don't stand up when tight so they clear the inner hubs....work a treat. I'll see if I can come up with the part number....

The description is "ACT 14" low profile cable ties"  Part number AL-14-50-LP-O-C  (ACT = Advanced Cable Ties)

Package of 100 cost about $15 US IIRC

Current type on amazon - different brand but similar style  https://www.amazon.c...s/dp/B07G1DWCZT

ACT brand on another site....  https://www.electric...ylon-cable-ties

And I found the ACT website....  https://www.advanced...4-inch-natural/

CBS also have a similar type

https://www.carbuild...e-ties-100-pack

though, you need to link 2 together to get the length for the big end of a CV joint. They do have longer types, but they are too wide to be effective.

I have tried these and I thought they were ~ OK ~, but I wasn't over the moon about them.
