So I’m look at dry building the crankshaft so I can measure the end float to determine what size thrust bearings I’ll need. Do I apply lube at this point to the main journals? Or will this affect the reading Ill get? Also, I know your meant to use a micrometer to determine what size journals and bearings to get but all I have at hand at the minute is a digital vernier calliper. Could I use this?

Yes apply lube, to stop scuffing of the bearings, just some cheap engine oil will be fine.

you'll need better than a vernier unfortunately, basic bearing measument would be plastigauge, where you tighten the bearing up on the bit of stuff so it squeees flat, then you can read off the provided gauge the clearance, that wont tell gou in the journel is out of round though you'll need a mic for that.

for thrusts you can use feeler gauges,

So I have just under 4 thou of end float with my current thrust washers. Would I be ok to re use these then?

If you are rebuilding the engine it is a good idea to fit all new bearings and thrust washers together with a new oil pump & timing chain.
