Thanks Nick,
The axel is definately fixed well.
I assume by 'hat' you mean this part? It's not fixed in the transfer case but is a good slide fit into it. Should it be fixed (by loctite retainer or something) into the case?

What about balancing if i change the pressure plate?

My MED one was a very tight fit. I would say interference fit.

Back to the pressure plate we never did as it’s mass when compared to the flywheel and back plate was next to nothing.

There seems to be a current idea that some companies have is balancing the whole assy after the assembly of the balanced parts. This includes the friction plate! and they then make final adjustment with a angle grinder on the pressure plate.

So in your case just get it fitted with the A (if they still stamp it on them) to the top.

Nice work :proud:

The Helical Drops will take the torque and power here no problem.

It's a double edged sword though whether to suggest earlier or later types;-

Earlier has a stronger tooth and more thrust area on the Idler (not that you'd break teeth from either type)

Later have a bigger Bearing on the Idler, but at the cost of thrust surface area.

I would however strongly recommend aligning the Transfer Case to the Gearbox Case. They are doweled from the factory but, I'm yet to find any that match up right.

If you were to run with the Later Drops, I'd suggest looking it to means of locking the Thrust Washers on the Idler, so they don't try to bury themselves in to the casings. I am slightly more leaned towards the later gears with the bigger bearing.

Thanks all.

I think a little more investigating & measuring to see if what I've got can be easily removed as Nick said, and I'll check out the helicals you mention Moke Spider.

I can't believe it's been 5 years since I removed my engine. Time to put it back in.

It's had a little clean and refresh, along with a few more major mods along the way.

It's a tight squeeze.

Wow - 5 years ?  The time flies I know and life is so good at getting in the way.

Hope it all goes well and looking forward to your results.

Cheers Spider, life certainly does, and it wasn't till I opened the old post that I realised how long it had been.

Took 2 days, some swearing, a few cups of tea, and scraped knuckles to put it back in.

Just need to fit the front radiator/grill. Then I can see if all the mods work, or if it just implodes

But did you invent any new swear words ?

I can see you would have had to grind the shoe horns thinner for that install.

I'm sure it'll go well mate ;D
