aye up, i'm in need of some new knuckle joints for my 1990 mini studio 2 and i'm going to get them from mini spares as im in york and can go and pick them up from harrogate.

Looking at the knuckle joints on minispares i can't understand which i need out of these 2:

http://www.minispare....aspx?pid=36103

http://www.minispare....aspx?pid=33828

It says on the description for both of them: "Fits front and rear except later cars 1990 onwards with a built in spacer for extra ride height clearance." which makes me think neither of them fit?? :o

which one do i need? hopefully the cheaper one :o

Why not ring them and ask/check before you set off? The bunch at Harrogate are usually really helpful.

The answer is the answer i posted above.

For 1990 cars the (genuine ones as minispares list them) were fitted to raise the rideheight slightly, but these cannot be using if you are using hilos.

Why can't you use the genuine ones with Hi-Los? Are they a different size?

I'm fitting Hi-Los soon, and have been advised to use genuine knuckles, so what would happen if i did that?

If you had read the description and my post, then you would know there is difference in them.

Cars from 1990 onwards had a spacer fitted to the knucle joint to raise the ride height slightly, so its not my opinion its fact.

I think the confusion has arisen as, if you read both adverts on the website, they say the same thing about cars after 1990!!!!

THIS Is a Genuine, all singing, all dancing knuckle joint for "virtually" every car

THIS is where the "virtually" comes in. Fitted to the front of 1990-on cars only, it has a thicker spacer between the joint and the cone. The rear of 1990-on cars does NOT use this joint but rather the first one.

THIS is a cheap a$$ copy of the first joint. It is NOT the same design as the 1990-on front joint. Rumours are that they wear out in about 5 minutes and need replacing again...... Lovely job! :o

having fitted a few knuckles in my time, I would say only buy a genuine one, in my experience the actual knuckle and seat seem to be ok on the cheap ones but the boot is thicker and stiffer, I could not get the boot on the cheap version to stay on, it kept poping off at full droop, even when held in place by zipties/wire.

using the same cheap knukcle and seat ( i left the car in bits and got a genuine one) i swaped the much more plyable genuine boot on, and it stayed in place.
