does anyone know how i can remove underseal on my mini?

the mini is now just a bare shell and i can turn it on its side quite easy.

i was wondering if there is any attachments for a 9" angle grinder that might do the job?
also i want to remove all the old paint ready for a repray, so again , is there any way to do this with an angle grinder with the correct 'blade' . (some kind of attachment that will remove paint but not damage the metal)

heres hoping.....

dan.

There's no realy trick to getting rid of underseal. If you don't mind scratching the paint underneath then a stiff wire brush for your grinder would work but would be very very messy (my parents were not happy when I covered the washing machine in old underseal! :o)

Or you could always heat it up and scrape it off? Sometimes it scrapes off quite easily when it's dry and flaky or you could soak it in white spirit for a while.

Whatever way its a pretty arduous task but quite worth it :o

White spirits and a little warmth..

Also a good idea to turn the car on it's side, but this may not be possible.

I used a wire brush on a drill and a scraper for some parts, took me forever but finally got down to bare metal.

if you mean the underseal underneath the car, ive found the best way from trying it over the years is a heat gun and a scraper.
if you mean removing the paint from the car body and not from were you have took the underseal off use paint stripper or a paint removing disc that fits on grinders, i cannot remember the correct name for it but i think machine mart sells them, they take the paint off and dont do a lot of damage to the metal.

cool so it looks like its possible for me to get my mini back to bare metal then :genius:

i can easily get the mini on its side so scraping the underseal off should be a bit easier than normal.

a 9" grinder!! for underseal removal!!!! holy cow you're adventurous!! i use them to cut up cars!! they would be better at cutting out the old metal thus causing the removal of the underseal!!

on a serious note tho try the heat and scraper option or maybe petrol/paint thinner/paint stripper and a scraper
