Hi;

A friend of mine is trying to build up a spare front subframe to transplant into his mini when it come back from spraying after a fire. He managed to pick up a second hand Front Subframe which came with Top and Bottom Arms, Tie Bars, Hi Los and Disc Hubs.

He has removed the Hubs and at first thought one was a Drum Hub but now thinks they are both Disc Hubs but they are not the same?

How many different types of Disc Hubs are there and how can you tell the difference?

He will be running 8.4 Calipers.

Here is the only pic I have:

The hub on the right has a chamfered outer and the one on the left has a stepped outer?

The ones I have for my project (also making up a front Subframe) looks the same as the one on the left - I will be running 7.5 Caliper Disc Brakes

Edit  I have just spotted that the one on the right may well be a Metro Hub, looks like he's been sold a duff setup (bit like mixing radials and Cross Plys :-)

I recently asked something similar and got a lot of help. Mokespider includes a link to which details of the hub can be measured just to confirm any suspicion.

I assume these will be refurbished?

The one on the right (actually a LH?) looks to have an inside seal fitted to the outside (inside seal has an extended lip to go into the plastic flinger)

The outside seal on the other hub  doesn't look much better

Yes he was planning to have them refurbed, I was going to do it for him but he's bought some KAD Alloy ones now (I wish)!!

A lot of useful info - incidentally what was causing the Disc to rub in the end - I never found that bit :-)

Thanks @nicklouse - would you use them on the same Subframe ?

Yes and no.  First the early one will not clear the 8.4” discs internally and will need some metal removing. The later one does look like it has had a bit of a bashing.

would I use those. Can’t say. Would I use a mixed pair. Sure no probs as long as the arms are not mixed. And they will work with the discs you plan to use.

 Neither did I in the end. Bought whole new assemblies for the front.
