So I have had my mini around 6 weeks. I hadn't driven one in about 14 years. The Gear selection on this one is a right pain.

It is a right pain to get into 1st, especially at standstill. Often have to drop the clutch again, then go into every gear from 4th down to get it to 'Line Up'.

I have also now noticed, well ore than noticed, that when she is really warm, and in 2nd, the lightest of touches on the gear stick and it will jump out of gear (clutch up and throttle down). This then happened twice the other day in 4th under hard acceleration.

I should say when it is cold they gear box is also very stiff. but I surmised this is due to the oil being cold, and it does improve once up to temperature.

Could the gear change linkage be misaligned in some way? or something more sinister within the box?

As far as I am aware. I gues sit may be helpfull to know that the engine has been out of the car in the last year or so as it had some engine work done by the preivious owner. Which was leading my thinking on the gear linkage, but it has been so long since I have played with these... finding I am having to learn so much again!

I'm thinking you have a grabbing clutch issue which maybe needs bleeding, but that only stacks up for your difficulty getting into gear not jumping out, you seem to have too many issues all at once! My box ('98) crunches into and regularly jumps out of 2nd, it's a common weakness and will only be fixed with a rebuild.
I'd give John at Guessworks a call, he's the authority on gearboxes and may advise if you have multiple problems going on, unless it's a clutch issue it's going to be an engine out job though.

Stu.
