Looking to upgrade my exhaust and extractors.

- A series 1310 engine

- Piper 285 cam

- modified head, 36.5 inlets 29 exhaust SS race valves, 11 stud, double valve springs, 1.5 roller rockers, machined and lightly ported head.

- 4 gear cross pin diff

- rebuilt gear box

I've decided on the Maniflow LCB ST2 Medium Bore extractors but cannot decide on which exhaust to pair it with.

Considering either the RC40 single box or the Maniflow 1 7/8” exhaust single box.  Any other options?

Which sounds better? Im looking at maintaining the classic clean roar mini sound

Is there any performance difference between the maniflow and the RC40?

I use the Maniflow Stage 2 LCB and RCM exhaust system on my 1360 with good results.  I like the sound as well as the performance upgrade.

hmmm yes ive just read up about the RCM exhaust and it also seems like i really good option to pair with the stage 2 LCB.

do you use it on road?

any chance you could record the sound of ur RCM exhaust and post it here?

Do you mean 'raw' or 'roar'?
I use a Fusion Fabrications stainless steel system front to back.

haha i think a bit of both. dont want to suppress the natural sound that comes with the twin 1.5 sus

Have not heard of Fusion Fabrication before. how good are their kits and how friendly on the wallet?

Very good quality / not cheap but it's a forever exhaust :-)

I have SS ones of each on my cars. Both are very good, but the Maniflow is slightly better made.I put the Maniflow on my RSP recently and it went in so easily, whereas when I put the RC40 on my Racing Green, it was a struggle to slide the Maniflow exhaust manifold down the gap between the gearbox and bulkhead. It was also very difficult to mate the RC40 to the exhaust manifold as it was severe interference fit.

The Maniflow rear box is held on by a large jubilee clip, which I was surprised to see in the fittings pack, but it seems to be holding.

Calver is good on exhausts. I fitted Cooper freeflow manifolds to both cars; I think you need 85bhp+ for the 3 into 1 becomes a better bet. Apparently, they can be difficult to seal, which can lose power.

Both are good, I think you will get good service from either.

The Maniflow is better made, but the RC40 is slightly quieter, although there is little noticeable difference.

On my rally cars, where noise can be an issue and where the decibel reading is taken at scrutineering (too noisy - go home and can't start) I found that using an RC40 rear box combined with a Maniflow 'cherry-bomb' gave a reading a few DB's below the maximum allowed. I did have to weld skid plates onto the RC40 as bump deflectors which the Maniflow has as standard.

Used on the road.  Don't have the knowledge to record/post the sound, sorry.  Its slightly more raspy than the RC40 twin box that I've use previously.

I had a read on calvers website, ive imaged it below. Its confused me slightly about which extractors to use. 3 into 1 medium, LCB st2 medium or large?

Personally, I prioritise Torque at the bottom end of the Rev range, rather than peak BHP at some mad RPM figure I would never drive at.

You also need to know if your engine is going to produce enough BHP , or you have plans for further upgrades, that will make the 3 into 1 worthwhile.

I toyed with the idea of the small bore 3 into 1, but decided to play safe with a manifold with no joints.

Its up to you, ultimately. Read as much Vizard and Calver as you can to get the info you need.

Good luck with your eventual choice.

I want to prioritise more torque at midrange rather than BHP at crazy RPMs that i would never drive at too however in saying this i have a 285 cam which really only kicks in at about 2400+ revs.

I got a reply from Maniflow directly and lo & behold they're recommending a Maniflow LCB ST2 Medium Bore &  a Maniflow 1 7/8” exhaust box  :D

looks like i got a bit of reading to do before i make a final call. The damn 3 into 1 medium option is on my mind now
