Have changed timing cover gasket but still got a leak at that end of the engine.  Any thoughts as to where might be from as loosing patience.  Not a confident spanner man self taught and Haynes manual.  All help appreciated.  Thanks

Half moon seal behind the timing chain plate, between engine and gearbox.

Could also be the crankshaft pulley seal. If the timing chain case isn't centered before tightening the bolts, the seal can still leak even if brand new.

Cheers, Steve.

Stop guessing and get some UV leak tracer from Guessworks and then find where the leak is with a UV light.

but most likely the U seal.

Have used the UV dye before with excellent results. Pinpoints the source of the leak.

Engine out and split from gearbox, or fit one of these

It still may need engine taking out but not split from gearbox

Not sure how good they are, though they were fitted by rover under warrantee I think
