I am interested in doing some further upgrades to my "current" ( I'm having a hot 1293 being built ) 1275, and I'm considering getting an electronic dizzy, this one in particular :

The engine in the car currently is a 1275 from an Austin 1300, with a few subtle upgrades : mg metro big valve head, twin su hs2 on a Cooper s manifold, lcb manifold into a 2 inch single silencer exhaust.

I was looking at the forums and seen people mentioning them a lot as they offer better performance over a standard dizzy. What do you guys think ? At the moment I'm running a Lucas gold coil and the stock dizzy, would this coil still work with the csi module ?

Cheers Jean

The CSI's are really good. I've been using a few for a number of years. Very well made and highly reliable, though, the ones I've been using at the 45D4 type. The available curves in them well suit the A Series engine in various states of tune.

Off hand, I'm not sure the Lucas Gold Coil suits these.

You could look at the CSI available from Swiftune prehaps?

I have just fitted one to my MG Midget which is a similar spec to your current 1275, only i'm running on an HIF44.  There are 16 curves programed into it to suit all manner of uses.

PS, I use fitted it along with a new Bosch Blue coil as recomended by Nick Swift.

Swiftune sells a CSI product using their proprietary advance curves. I have one and like it a lot. Very easy to find/select the correct curve without removing the dizzy. I'm using the Bosch 'blue' coil, 3 ohm.

You could use the Swiftune CSI dizzy its all electronic which is really good and has the 16 curves. Aldon Yellow 100AY is another option with accuspark kit5j to make it electronic or you could just by the Aldon Yellow 100AYI, the Aldons are extremely popular. Another option is 123 dizzys from 123ignitions. I think they are very expensive but supposed to also be really good, they similar to the csi have 16 curves.

All really good options

Thanks to everyone for the replies and for your opinions, i have just sent an email to swiftune to confirm if they work with the lucas gold coil or wether they use a proprietary coil. I will probably end up going for the csi but not a 100% yet

For your info, i can confirm that according to the fitting instructions supplied with Swiftune's CSI dizzy they recommend a coil with more than 2.5 ohm resistance and suggest Bosch blue or Lucas DLB 105 (your Gold coil).

I had excellent service from the Swiftune team as usual, and my dizzy was with me less than 24 hours after placing my order and fitted within 20 minutes!!

Are any of these mappable and can they handle boost as well as vacuum?

They do have a Mappable range;-

http://www.csi-ignit...en/csi_pro.html

They will handle boost to a point, like any other distributor, but if you need it to go to a Boost Retard, I'm fairly sure, like several other (standard) distributors, they don't do this, however, drop them a line and see what they say.
