Hey all,

Had the MOT recently and barely passed the brake test.. The brakes now seem to be getting weaker and weaker.

Replaced rear shoes as they were low and adjusted the rear brakes accordingly, but problem is still there.

It feels like the front brakes aren't doing anything, as the rears have locked up a few times.

The pedal goes all the way to the floor and it struggles to stop.

Checked front discs and pads and they have plenty of life in them.

Bled the brakes a little and there was improvement, but it didn't last long and now its back to being weak.

Can't see any leaks anywhere either.

Any ideas? Or is the master cylinder pooped?

I have a non-servo yellow tag (GMC227).

Love how issues arise just as you're thinking of selling!

Cheers

If neither of the slave cylinders or calipers are leaking then the master cylinder is the most likely suspect. It's posssible that a seal kit would return everything to form.

A new brake master cylinder, new brake fluid DOT4, bleed two or three times as the manual says, that is, starting with the wheel farthest from the pump, and if the hoses and cylinders are not leaking, that pedal must be high and hard.

Good luck!

I agree with the above would suspect the master cylinder. Might be worth having a look under the dash / peddles to see if there is any sign of fluid leaking down onto the brake peddle (no means conclusive as sometime the leak gets concealed by the dust boot)
