Hi, I have few engines laying around in my garage and today I decided I will check one of them.

It is 998 (I guess) engine with 12G 295 head with double valve springs. I removed the head to check pistons and it has "D" flat pistons marked "Front M2050 C50". Pistons and cylinders looks nice and clean.

Gearbox is 22G1832 that is (as per Minimania) 4 synchro, Rod, 3.44.

What kind of engine that may be?

Thanks in advance.

I am looking to sell it in any way since I am working on 1300 Cooper project.

That sounds like an original 998 Cooper engine, the give-away being the head and D-top pistons. Of course, all pre-A+ 998 engines were basicaly the same and the pistons & head were the only real differences. Do you have the twin HS2 carbs and inlet manifold?

nope, no carbs and inlet manifold for a single carburetor.

Did all Coopers (non S and S) have electric fuel pump (and had blanked fuel pump opening at the back of the engine block)?

All Cooper and 'S's had a Lucas electric petrol pump mounted on the rear sub-frame.

I don't believe any of the the early Mini blocks had a blanked-off hole for a mechanical pump.

I heard that late MK2 Coopers used blocks with the hole for mechanical pumps but since they had electric pump the hole was blanked off with the plate. Guess similar as it is used now once you do the conversion to the electrical pump...
