It does sound like the garage has not adjusted the tappets correctly.

As above i would suspect the tappets.. you could run the engine with the rocker cover removed, and put a screw driver end to one of the rocker posts and listen to the other end with your ear (very carefully of course) which might help amplify the sound and confirm the rockers... given the mileage though it could be rocker shaft wear not just adjustement..

Hi All,

I have tried the ways you have suggested, i think the issue is in rocker's, let me know how to resolve this issue?

Adjust the valve clearances to 0.015" with the engine cold.
Put the car in 2nd gear with the handbrake off and push the car until one valve is fully open. Deduct the number of that valve from 9 and the result is the valve number which you adjust.
For example, with valve no. 2 fully open adjust valve no. 7.
Keep moving the car and note which valves have been adjusted untill you have done all 8. You need a screwdriver, a 1/2" AF spanner and a set of imperial feeler gauges.

You can use 12 thou but only if the tappets are worn

positha has done 93k, so probably worn!

I thought 15 thou made it more noisy?

I've always used 12 thou for standard cams and rockers.

For most stock engines, 12 thou is what the factory recommend, however for some, like the (original) Cooper S they did recommend 15 thou for 'hard' use and off hand, the MG Metro had different settings for Inlet and Exhaust.

If after setting them you find the noise is still there and is def comming from the rockers, it might well be a worn rocker shaft, which after 93k miles, I would say is par for the course.
