I have a 1984 mayfair

Ballast system with pink and white ballast wire to coil +

The last owner had fitted a new coil which tests out at 3.3 ohms across terminal

What’s better keep the coil and run new 12v wire or get new 1.5ohm ballast coil

One is way cheaper than the other but what’s best

That’s the problem the correct one for the car is the ballast, but is that the best solution

If I rewire do I just replace the pink and white with std 12v white cable if so what amp rating should it be

You shouldn't need to rewire, if your loom is original & has a pink/white wire for a ballasted coil it should also have a white wire for a non-ballasted system.

Just unwrap that end of loom & you will find it hidden in there.

IF you decide to go non-ballasted to avoid any possible accidents tape the pink/white wire into the loom the way the white wire was.
