Hey everyone,

I'd like to put together a small FAQ on Oil Filters and I'd like your input here. I don't want it to cover which is best or microns or anything like that.

There was a few types fitted to our Minis over the course of it's production, particularly prior to the Introduction of the Spin On Oil Filters, ie, the Cartridge Types.

There was (I think off hand) 2 types fitted in the UK and we of course had our own on top of these.

I'd just like to find out all the various types as I'd like the FAQ to cover all the parts and correct assembly order of them. I know few of us would likely have them these days.

Over the years when encountering these filter set ups, I'd say 1 in 2 were assembled incorrectly and / or had parts missing from inside, often resulting in un-filtered oil going through the engine.

I feel detailed exploded diagrams and / or photos would help.

Hi Moke Spider

Here is a set of photos I took when rebuilding my 1972 Mini (manual gearbox Purolator unclamped filter). Note that in the detail it confirms that there is a bolt retaining circlip missing from mine (but the circlip is referenced and the order of assembly is correct).
