I have had the cylinder head off my 1098 engine to replace head gasket and studs.

As I was reassembling I found that a few cam followers had became dislodged as the push rods would not fit. I took the head back off to reach the tappet covers and found the culprits.

When reinserting the followers, I have found two that will not sit flush and remain proud of the rest. When I have a dig about in their bores, I can’t immediately feel any gunk or debris that would prevent them sitting.

Has anyone experienced this or know what I can do to fix this??

I think that may be the case as can feel the metal of the cam in the bore.

Without meaning to sound hopeless, what is the best way to crank over engine? Can’t reach crank bolt with socket. Have tried jacking up one wheel and putting in third and spinning but won’t turn

Just put it in gear with the wheels on the ground and rock the car forwards or backwards a bit.

When you say the push rods don't fit, how much higher are they that the others?  As Nick says, they are probably just lifted by the cam which is perfectly normal.

Thanks, was a little bit of surface rust seizing engine but a bit of petrol and rocking did the job.

Cam followers going up with the cam as you say. Can’t seem to work out the sequence that they’re moving in but think all is okay!

Thanks
