Hi all,

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

I'm trying to weigh up pros and cons of each championship and wondered if we have any advice among us?

  • Track time and track locations?
  • Both championships look to have great racing wherever you are in the pack?
  • Entry cost/ consumables etc any advice?
  • Car cost, am I correct thinking to both build or buy a car, perhaps mighty mini is slightly more affordable?

I've not raced 4 wheels- spent a fair bit of time racing off road on 2 wheels. restored a number of minis however feel its probably wise to get a proven car to rebuild rather then starting from scratch (although open to building one with a bit of mentor ship etc..)

Any tips, thoughts, advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Mighty Mini or S Class?...the same advice...Kiss the organisers arse in whatever Championship, and you can run illegal cars. Question anything they do, and you will be persecuted and your car/engine will be constantly stripped for no reason apart from costing you money.
Saying that, both offer good racing but looking at entries Mighty does seem to be struggling.
Mini 7 race at more high profile meetings.
One thing for Mighty Mini is the Mini Grande 24hr meeting. You can race a Mighty Mini spec car, with std 998 engine, and compete in the Snetterton 24hr race against the Citroen 2CVs. 3 or 4 drivers in the car split the costs and great event to do.

Thanks for the response. That sounds like a life lesson!

I had the impression Mini 7 race at slightly higher profiles meetings, entry costs a little higher?

Mini Grande 24hr sounds like good fun- shall look into this thanks, although I thought mighty minis run a standard 1275?

As with any racing go read the class rules and regs. MM have two classes and many control parts.

also don’t forget to read all these rules along with the MSA Blue book.

Mightys do run a 1275 in their championship but a few of them fit a standard 998 for the 24hr race.

Yep.
My engines have won Mini 7, 7 S Class, Mighty Mini and Super Mighty Mini on numerous occasions, but due to 'selective' scrutineering I cannot be arsed with them anymore.
Seeing cheaters win championships does make you lose interest.

Sorry to hear of these circumstances.

Maybe we can see a change in this...

Unlikely. Do too well and the cheat word get thrown at you.

been accused of it just because they could not beat a class time for 12 years.

Mini 7 Club Committee and Tello from Mighty Minis have 'over scrutineered' my engines for years. My last S Class engine was stripped 4 times in 7 races, yes it was winning, but was always to the regulations, which to be honest are very vague and full of contradictions, written by people who have no idea what they are doing. It is my job to take advantage of grey areas/lo9pholes whick I do to the full.
In recent years we have been beaten by engines with illegal parts, that I have pointed out to scrutineers, but the 7 Club Committee decided who they wanted to win the championship.
My driver was taking it further, to the MSA, but was threatened by the 7 Club Committee that he would be thrown out for "bringing the club into disrepute" and not allowed to race.

As someone who's building a car that could compete in the Miglia class I find this very disturbing to read.
