hi guys, this is my first mini. year 1985 which I am restoring.

I got a 1275 A+ engine, which developed an issue (probably a spun crank bearing)

 

I need to get the flywheel off, but for the love of god, I just can not get it off. I bought the beefy mini flywheel remove kit, and welded a jiog to hold the flywheel in place, but even the beefier kit was bending

 

Do i have more options? or do I need to cut the pressure plate, making sure I dont hit the crank.

hey, thx for the reply. yes, i gave it some very hard hits with the hammer, nothing. Also tried some heat. it just ist moving

How long did you leave the puller on? Turn the flywheel so the slot is horizontal as not doing this can cause problems getting it off.

you mean the slot on the crank? i can give that a go. I left the puller on for 2 days

slots horizontal.

 

lock flywheel in place.

 

get some proper washers.

 

lubricate the drive bolt threads.

 

make sure the plate is Parallel to the flywheel.

 

apply force to bolt.

 

leave come back apply force. have tea apply force. watch some TV apply force. go to bed. get up apply force. have breakfast apply force you get the idea.

does not lock it all up when you try and pull it

Spray it with gt85 leave overnight and then whack puller with lump hammer

i will try that horizontal. Didn't really think about that to be honest.

Yep. Theres not much else you can do really, as said above make sure the plate is parallel to the flywheel and try some thicker washers. A guessworks puller may help as that is even more heavy duty than the one you have and also doesn't have slots all the way down which weakens it .

When it does finally let go it can release suddenly and with some force. Might need to move your feet out of the way sharpish

As mentioned some thicker washers to start with, wind on the pressure, heat it, then shock it with freeze spray. Worked for me.

This won’t help you get the flywheel off, but might save pain later........ the end of the main puller bolt looks a bit marred - is there something to protect the end of the crank?

 

When you replace those washers with thicker ones, use the thin ones on the wok bolts you have wound back in - 3 or 4 evenly spaced around the circle. These will catch the flywheel when it eventually springs off.

I had a similar issue a few months ago and I finally got it off by hitting the fly through the starter motor hole with my big breaker bar like a snooker cue. It seemed so easy this way I vowed to try again if there is a next time.
