Hi,
My dads got a 1998 XJ8 jag. (3.2 V8) Was running fine yesterday but got in it this morning and it started then stopped. And then nothing. Left it a few mins and started with a lot of throttle but cut out. And now nothing. Its normally starts fine. Any ideas of what i can check? Or should we just call out the AA?
I'm really stuck looked under the bonnet - just a mass of plastic and no carbs!

Jags have a cut out switch under the dash somewhere...

I think if it was the safety cutout switch it would not started in the first place, unfortunately because the vehicle runs a modern engine management system, there is a multitude of reasons why the vehicle won't start. your best bet is to get the AA to take the vehicle to jaguar and have an engine diagnostics performed. my friend had a similar problem with his Jaguar I spent two hours checking everything gave up and took it to the garage and it turned out to be a faulty airflow meter.

Nope! you were all wrong! It was flooded but due to it being fuel injection, leaving it standing doesnt help. Just needed the fuses for the fuel pump removing and lots and lots of turning over. Wish i'd thought of that this morning

glad you got it sorted. My dad is a big Jag fan. When i was younger we had 11 (yes at once. mainly XJS and XJ6's)

The last one we had, i think about a year ago was crushed by a wall. A truck clipped the wall with the trailer and it fell on the car. that was a 3.2 also.

Oh wait, we had a slighty older red one since, but we got shut of that one.

Glad you fixed it, I want a XJS when i can afford one and the insurance.

Neon just thought i would mention this if its any future help. The engine does not just flood for nothing their could be a cause. On the S type poor starting, uneven idle and staling cause flooding. Having worked on a lot of more recent jags, i have noticed 3 common faults. coil packs usualy bad misfire, fuel pump or relay and the most common being a vac pipe in the centre of the V towards the rear of the engine. Its An L shaped pipe made of rubber that usually after 4/5 years splits causing bad starts, flooding, engine Knock and staling. The pipe is a pig to change, but its only £6.20.

Just thought i would add my bit if it helps anyone in the future :P

Koss, it had been started the day before to be moved about 50 yards. The AA bloke said it was this that caused it to flood. But cheers for the advice
