Anyone know where this connector goes in the engine bay? It's between the wires for the coil and the alternator connection.

If it's white and black it goes to tne alternator.

Sorry jimmy it's a bit early for me. I meant to write it goes to the distributor for a pre 76gt it's the short white black from the - side of the coil. Phil is correct for post 76gt

Nope.

If it's white and black it goes to the coil on the switched / points side.  It is probably the wire for the tachometer feed back to the dash.

Phil.

White/black is:

Coil -ve to tacho

Coil -ve to points/dizzy

Don't connect it to the alternator!

Just checked back on some old photos, seems it connects to the black wire from the old dizzy. I'm running a CSI dizzy now with a red and black wire to the positive and negative on the coil respectively.

The rev counter is very erratic if it works at all. There is another white/black wire that is connected to the coil I think, I'll have to have a look later

Thanks for the replies

It could be that the rev counter is an RVI type, which aren't always compatible with electronic ignition

It's a 1980 GT. When I first got it running it wouldn't work for 10/15 seconds then it would spring into life. Now it doesn't do much, only bounces up and down occasionally. I thought maybe this spare wire was to blame

Just had a look, there's 2 white/black wires, into one connector to the negative on the coil, I'm guessing the spare wire is part of them wrapped up in the loom. Can't see anywhere this will attach to the dizzy, guessing it's redundant now.

I can't say I'd recommend the CSI dizzy, caused me loads of running issues, might just put the old dizzy on

They're often commoned onto one connector - one goes off in the loom to the tacho, the other to this floating female spade.

Distributor points then have a flying lead with a male spade that would plug into this connector.

If there's 2 wires on the coil one will be for the tacho & the other for the dizzy. You must have replaced the one to the dizzy if the car runs at all.

The dizzy I have has 2 wires, 1 red, 1 black I'm guessing to power the electronic ignition. We followed the fitting instructions, red to positive and black to negative on the coil, no other wires to connect. I have it running quite well at the mo, apart from the rev counter not working.

I'm not near the car now, I'll try to get some photos later to show what I've got, thanks

What you have sounds correct - with the CSI this connector will be redundant. Tape it up.
