I am looking for a traditionally shaped bottom hose but with a 5/8 heater hose take off rather than the older 1/2. Ideally in Silicon. Does anyone make one?

I don't want to fit a 1/2 to 5/8 adapter as it will restrict coolant flow.

I can buy a later Mini ('90-'92) hose and cut it down but they are either expensive rubber NOS or very very very expensive Silicon

Any Ideas?

Cheers

Fit an adaptor. A reduction of flow in the heat circuit will be negligible.

No not an option.

Then you have an expensive option only then.

curious as to why it is not an option. Often fitting an 8mm reducer in the line is beneficial when not using a heater so I can see an issue of going from 5/8 to 1/2.

I have laid out the cooling system with an expansion tank linked into the bottom hose. Bypass runs through the expansion tank. When cold both the heater and the bypass run through this take off from the bottom hose. Therefore I want to keep to a 5/8 hose. Maybe over kill but that is the way I have engineered the system. If there is no other option I will get what is needed. All I was asking was whether there is a 5/8 hose option that I may have missed.

I too searched for a while looking for the same option but came up empty handed. It does appear that there's no such animal.

There is though an inexpensive way of doing it yourself, actually, 2 ways.

First way is to grab a bottom hose without a heater outlet, then fit a 5/8" 'Bolt in Adaptor';-

https://www.carbuild...heater-take-off

I know how this may at first appear, however, if you take your time to fit it and curve the plates to fit the profile of the hose better than as supplied, these work very well. There is one of the hose manufacturer's who actually make and sell the lower heater hose with such a fitting, though in 1/2".

The other option was what I had in place for a while.

Grab 2 Top Hoses from the Aust Pollution Minis, that have the 'rear facing thermostat';-

https://minisport.co...75-1976-onwards

Then with a 1" short length of Copper Pipe, use that as a joiner, however, in the middle, tap off with a section of 5/8" Tube, angled upwards. I still have this adaptor, if I remember later today, I'll snap off a photo.

Thanks Moke Spider.

I guess, as you say, there is no such animal... I wonder how many people would use one if available?

2 Great options there that I will look into thanks for the time, and if you can share a photo of the second idea that would be kind.

May not even need to make a T piece:

why did you not say.  there are a number of options out there like the self sealing take offs.

and joiners with threaded take offs

but i would still just use a adaptor.

This is the Bolt In Adaptor I have used, though, not on the Lower Hose

Though, from some of the Links above, there's quite a few options here it sees.

This is the Lower Hose Adaptor I made, it has an advantage over a simple Tee Piece in that it's easily accessible to fit the Heater Hose on to it

This is another similar one I took from a car, only this one is 1/2"

Thanks for all the ideas!

Summary: There are no bottom hoses with a 5/8 heater takeoff out there but there are a shed load of different ways to get what I want.

Now I just have to choose which way to go!!!
