I never considered it before, as I assumed people were trying to scam less knowledgeable folks with these types of advert, but maybe (just maybe) the people writing the ad really actually don't know.......

This is the most blatant one I've seen in a long time and I cannot believe the person writing this really expects anyone to "fall" for it so they must really not know themselves?

What annoys me even more is when a trader is trying to sell a vin plate ringer-soon as you ask any searching questions they claim they know nothing about old minis...

That really is a shameful attempt, hope no one without proper knowledge ends up paying too much for that lemon!

What is the problem? He says it was given a NEW shell 20 years ago.If the shell was new this is fully legal.(all bets being off if it was secondhand)If there is documentation for the reshell the price looks OK to me,but I am no expert.Steve..

There is nothing original from a '69 S, its a late 80's car, shell and every component within it, its a scam to have a tax and mot exempt mini using an old log book.

READ WHAT I SAID - there is nothing original about the car - it is NOT a 69 Cooper S, it is a later car with a 69 plate attached.

There is a big difference between reshelling an old car and just sticking an old plate on a newer car and saying it’s old, the car is definitely not a mk2 more like a mk5 or 6 the interior is all wrong and so is the engine bay

Except for the retro brake master it looks the same as my 89 in flame red. Engine is 998 A+ with verto clutch. A+ available from 1980.

It’s surely a flame red, with Cooper mainstream seats and a centre binnacle conversation.

I wasn't really looking for a discussion on the car (I think we can all see its an 80s reg swap job)

I was more looking for a discussion on the people placing these adverts.

Do we think this person was really trying to pull the wool over our eyes or if they really believed what they were saying because they don't know any better themselves

I'm always tempted to send these folks a "question" on ebay but I don't waste my time as I think they do know what they are saying 99.9% of the time, however this one was just sooo bad that I was really struggling to believe it was a logbook jockey and not someone who genuinely believed what they were saying.

Well you have spent loads of time on here, so why not send them a question and see what they say?

This could be a genuine misunderstanding if the car has been sat in a shed for many years with the same family. I wouldn't describe it the way it has been but someone else may not realise the significance of what they've written. Looks like the reshell was done in 2007 based on MoT history. I won't be bidding on it.
