Hi all,

Next riddle!

At speed I seem to have a squeaking noise coming from what I think is the front left wheel, and it seems to vary with speed.

I have had a look (or rather a shake) at the wheel bearings, and no play or binding or strange noises when I spin the wheel by hand.

Brakes aren't sticking either as the car doesn't pull.

The only other thing I noticed is that noise goes away as soon as I let go of the throttle. Immediately it stops, and as I apply throttle again the squeaking comes back. This makes me suspect something driveshaft or CV-joint related, but I have no clue what exactly that could be.

Does anybody have any idea what could be the cause of this? I tried turning up the radio but I can still hear with the window open, so unfortunately that is not a solution with the current temperatures!

Does it still squeak if you're coasting with engine off?

I would remove the drive flange and have a look at the bearing just to make sure as I had a similar issue with no play in the wheel bearing but on inspection a pile of twisted blue metal feel out.

Have you checked it`s not the fan belt, alternator or water pump as sound does travel, come to think of it you had better check all the wheels.

I haven't tried this yet, but since the squeak stops as I let go of the throttle, not sure if it would make a difference?

The belt has been replaced recently, but the squeak was already somewhat present before the replacement. I'm in the middle of moving house at the moment, but I might have to take a look at the bearing then soon.
