Hi All!

I have a 1996 Equinox 1.3 SPI and was wondering what fault code reader I need for it?

It’s hesitating on acceleration, so hoping a fault code reader would point me to the issue - usual bits and bobs already checked (vac lines .ect)

Understand there are a few different types of fault code readers but already know OBD isn’t compatible with SPI.

Crypton / Skykes / ASC 1-4 / certain connectors / cards?? ??

I have no idea, can anyone please advise?

Thanks!

Hey fellow Equinox owner :)
Got a phone or tablet or laptop?
I bought a cable like this:

off eBay. Goes from my Samsung phone to the Spi diagnostic port.(via the usb adapter that came with my phone)
The app to read it is simple and free on the play store. Or there's loads available free on other platforms, It's Rover MEMS software you're after.

Ahh, thanks for the suggestion, I hadn’t thought of using a Laptop/phone as the reader itself. Only issue is that I have an iPhone and there is no MEMS diagnostic software on the AppStore (I don’t think it’s supported on Apple devices). It seems to be comparable on Android looking at a few web links. I will have to take a look and see if there is any PC software that I can download In place of phone software. Does your app tell you things such as; if a sensor has gone and which one, or if there is a vaccine leak .ect?

I use Rover MEMS diagnostic.

Yes it gives you any fault codes present, so you can see if you have a sensor fault. It also lets you clear fault codes. You can also see live readouts from the sensors in graphic or written form. You can trim some settings including your idle speed (which can only be done with a diagnostic tool) and other stuff. It is very useful for a free app.

If you're nearby I'd show you it in operation. I'm near Leeds.

Sounds like just what I need... have taken another look and it looks like I need an android device to download the app, unfortunately! I’ve seen an online site that might work, but isn’t as useful as an app on my phone. I’ll keep looking, but thanks for the idea, I’ll see what I can do! Thanks for the offer of showing, Leeds is a bit far for the mini when it’s not running 100%!
