Just change the filter head?

I think I may have one of the older style ones that looks more like the cartridge type head somewhere (uses the long studs)

Or are they interchangable ?

They are interchangeable - just different ones use different gaskets.
I have on that looks like item 15 (rather than the new style one that MiniSpares sell) which I'm sure uses the same item 14 gasket (rather than the item 17 gasket)

44 quid! When you can get a new oil filter head for less than half that.

Yes expensive but there must be a market there.

There might not be enough room for that as it drops the filter close to the subframe horizontal. I know that the Metro Van sandwich oil cooler adaptor can't be itted for that reason......it hits the subframe.

Seem to recall there was a shorter filter that got round that.
Though this one claims to be for MPIs

There's also a 'Joggle Block' (for want of a term) that was fitted to the Sprites and Midgets (or some of them ?). I have one in the workshop presently, if I remember, I'll snap off a photo.
Basically it lifts the head by about 1 to 1-1/2".

As Nick's says - all that's a lot of hassle (and cost) when you can change the filter head for £15!!
(I think you've all headed down an alley of solving a different problem to what the OP asked)

youre correct, its quite a long body on the old style filter.

Yes, the only reason I was considering switching to a spin on was to eliminate one point of oil leaks. The old style you get a slight leak from where the body meets the block, a leak where the bowl meets the body, and a leak where the bolt goes through the bowl. While if you switch to spin on, you eliminate one point of possible oil leaks (and its a little easier to change the filter)
