Hi everyone,

New to the forum and relatively new owner of Rover Mini 1966 1275cc. The car had been garaged for 4 years by the previous owner. Recently after a long drive noticed alot of bubbling and hissing coming from the radiator (could not see exact location due to darkness). I have decided to replace radiator bottom hose, radiator cap, thermostat and water pump. I have noticed that the cooling fan does not turn freely when i try by hand; this is expected or has something seized up? If so what would cause this?

If it is an electric fan it is probably seized,if an original type mechanical fan it should not turn without turning the engine.Steve..

Should be free to move if the fan belt is removed. If the belt is there you will not get it to move.

but some pictures of the set up as we know how it should be rather than what you have in front of you.

Ok so it is a 1996 year and an SPi by the looks of it. Not 1966 as your original post said.

mech fan as info above. There is also an auxiliary electric fan on the inner wing.

I would drain and refill with some suitable engine cooling system cleaner and water. Run as per cleaner info. Then flush and refill with the correct coolant mix.
