Hi,

I'm fitting a set of Mini Sport 1.5:1 rockers onto my 12G940 cylinder head. The head has been skimmed 4 thou new valve guides and unleaded seats.
I have Kent valve springs and 2mm shims ready to fit.
Do I need new/different cylinder stud nuts washers or do the original washers and nuts clear the alloy rockers? The rocker studs nuts and washers look ok.
Advice needed please

Pointless if the head is standard. As that is the main restriction. You will also lose torque. What is the camshaft.

Maybe.
Do you know the answer to my question?

It's a standard camshaft.

You say nothing of the head.

fit them if you want. Do you need the pedestal shims? Have you measured? I would change them.

Depends on which head nuts you have fitted at the moment.  The flanged type can sometimes overhang the pedestal too far and foul on the rockers.

The head has had no porting work, only skimmed 4 thou. New guides and seats.
I questioned the nut overhang to Mini Sport, they said never heard of it being a problem before. My basic checks still question their answer.
I was told I need the shims because of the skim, again by MS.

I haven't fitted anything as yet, and I don't think I will. After researching and listening to everyone, it's far simpler to fit the forged type rockers so everything goes back together without any modifications.
Even the 1:3.1 rockers will foul the head nuts.

If everything else is mainly standard (other than a head skim) I would not even think about fitting 1.5x ratio rockers.  You also do not need roller rockers for that engine - just expensive bling in this case.

If you want good quality rocker speak to AC Dodd on the forum and get some of his.  Machined accurately and give consistent, standard lift.

Graeme, what nuts are needed to clear the pedestals/rockers?

I've decided to return everything i've bought. Too much hassle.
I'll order a set that just replace the originals.
