I heard somewhere that paint colours used on Elfs and Hornets were different to those used on normal minis.
Is this true?
For example I've been told that my car is Yukon Grey ontop and Dove grey on the body.
I'm looking at buying Rustoleum in dove grey but I want to make sure this will be the right colour.
Thanks

It would proabbly be easier to spray to be honest, get a couple of rattle cans, It'll be a lot cheaper than rustoleum too, and it takes a lot less time.

Ok, Ive got one tin of 2pack(right name)? that came with the car from the last owner and I think the name on it was austin grey, not sure if this is a mistake or something.
What I really want to know is, when I give the paint colour code, is it certain to be one that the paint mixers will recognise as a mini colour or are elf colours different?

Is the paint code on the plaque on the right hand winside wing?
On mine there is the code FR 8097 but I cant find it on the mini colours site.

i don't know, but the minicolours is not the be all and end all, i don't think it has ALL colours documented. take the code to a paint shop and see if they can match it on their database.

How did you get on with matching your paint?
My Elf has a Fawn brown body. The manuals say that the colour code is RD24 but all of the paint factors have it as RD26. I've tried paint from two factors and neither match. Same problem on the roof paint, Pale Ivory YL1. It appears that BLMC kept reusing the paint codes with slightly different paint formulations.

If you want a tin of Rustoleum in a particular colour, just phone them and talk to Steve and ask if it’s ok to send off as sample. Iit’s what I did and sent of a section I cut from one of my rotten doors.

I spotted another Elf by the side of the road one day, exactly the same colour as mine and he told me the name of the colour, which was dove grey. I told the paint shop that and they found the exact colour, it really is spot on.
Also...... I am in the Elf/hornet register and in the last newsletter there was a full table of Elf/hornet colours.
.......The chart doesnt mention Fawn brown but perhaps if you mention it to the blokes at the paint shop, if you have the car with you they may be able to make up a small pot which you can compare.
Where abouts are you from by the way? Tis nice to know other Elf owners
Sorry i couldn't be of more help

I'm also a member of the Elf/Hornet register and know the chart you mentioned. That chart, I think, only covers Mark I and maybe Mark II Elfs. Mines a Mark III and I found a more comprehensive list of paint codes on the Internet which lists the fawn brown as a Mark III colour. As far as I can find out there were only 100 fawn brown ones made with the Cardinal red interior.
I'm not too far away from you, I'm in Cramlington, Northumberland
