Hi guys

Not anytime soon ill be pulling down my excuse of a garage,
Looked into building a cavity walled block garage with pitched roof, and to be honest its just stupid money and this is me doing all the work,

So I've come across steel framed with coated steel paneled garages, similar looking to a new built farm barn.

Has anybody got any 1st hand experience with living with one off these garages, I.e, condensation, drafts, wind blowing rain in etc etc

The garage ive found is 6 meters in depth by 10 meters in length with a pitched roof height of 3.1 meters, either 2 roller doors and workshop area or 3 roller doors and very small workshop area, errection roughly 1.5 days
My current garage is roughly this size.

The cost of steel to traditionally built is a no brained, but if condensation, drafts etc is an issue then ill have to have some thinking time to myself up a mountain somewhere

I had a prefab concrete garage some years ago with a corrugated steel roof. The roof absolutely ran with condensation so I can't see a steel framed one being any better!

I put plywood down before putting the steel roof sheets on. Zero condensation

Surely this depends on the construction of said steel garage, if it's steel frame with a single sheet of cladding it's nothing more than a car port.  No insulation layer?  Any links to the ones you're looking at?

However this is the one that got me looking at tin sheds, as you'll see the price increase reflects that just in the pics it looks a more superior build and insulated

Had something similar, an aluminium shed. It seemed to provide decent enough shelter but it would make a hell of a racket when it was windy. The panels would rattle

The prices look comparable with concrete sectional ones.

 

The condensation will be moisture  that was already in the air inside the garage so is it actually any worse?

Insulation like Kingspan/Celotex is probably key to stopping condensation and is of course essential if you are using any workshop heating and will also reduce the noise of rain/wind.

Despite the size have you considered a wooden building? Better appearance and the wood will control the moisture level better: https://www.regencyt...ber_garages.htm

 

If you're planning to insulate it's worth costing it at the construction stage and maybe having it included in the build.

There can be a size limit on combustible buildings near dwellings & boundaries.

think ill just push off another year and build one, proper job, insulated, toilet, heating system, the works. after all. the feel of garage im after is more a show room than a cold damp workshop, think gloss granite floor tiles and plastered walls then you'll get what it is i want

Insulation cost like £50 extra for standard 10x16 shed/garage. They can customize the garage/shed/warehouse, whatever you like will be done... use consteel2020 at checkout will get £50 OFF

perhaps this will be cheaper than tiles...just an idea:)

I replaced the Asbestos sheet roof on my garage at the beginning of the year. The walls are pre fab concrete panels.

The company that we bought the roofing sheets off advised buying insulated sheets to prevent condensation forming on the inside.

It's been about 7 months and so far so good. Not cheap to do (spent the best part of a grand on a 5x3m garage but this did include replacing all the supporting woodwork) but the garage is now completely dry inside.
