sorry I could not get this coming towards me, I was operating the clock at the finish of the test!

At a point we were still moving (all be it running badly after a drowning!)

 

It’s been a long time since I’ve done an event with so many DNFs!! That was one rough, wet, slippy place!

We were out as well, but I was with my brother who was on his first event having never navigated before. So never expected much.

First reg was great but very wet and rough. We hit something a bit hard I guess and ended up with the rad fan snapping it’s blades off so unable to control the temp we had to retire which was a shame as the tests in the afternoon looked great. Car 50 if you got any pics?

What type of event is this?  Regularity or speed?  Cages and things like helmets/hans devices required?

It was a targa that runs to our road rally regulations, so avg speeds and tests round cones on disused land I’m unsure if you have a direct comparison in the US

You could as per the regs run a std road car with no modification and be compliant, you’d not have wanted to as it was particularly rough and very wet given the weather. No safety requirement as such other than being road legal

My son did it in his orange Escort RS2000 with John Thornley navigating running as Car No. 8.

He said that it sure was wet in the morning.

He finished 1st Historic & 3rd overall, so a good result. A Subaru Impreza won with a non-historic-eligible Group 4 Escort second.

Kurt, were you in a white Clubman’s?

I was at TP1 on the first regularity, then at the finish control on Test 3 & 9. A number of crews came to the finish of the test with TWO puctures due to a particularly bad pot hole.

No orange clubman, white roof, though the entire thing was brown after that first reg, which I would have gone round all day if I’d been allowed to. Shame the fan decided it didn’t want to play.

Saying that 2 punctures would have caused us a problem, I only carry one spare!!

It pays to carry two if you can.  My MINI has nowhere for a spare wheel so I carry a couple of extra sealant cans. Got a puncture last year but they did not fix the puncture! Had to summon a friend, who took me home to collect another wheel so I could get the car home. Quite a bit of a #@*k on, but eventually got the tyre  replacement cost back from the Local Authority.  I still carry a couple of extra cans.

Car looks awesome! what sort of spec do you have for a targa? are you full rally prepped up?

Mine is pretty well spec'd up for the rallying.  But as 28Hodge says above, for Targa you can run with a standard car other than carrying a few safety items such as first aid kit, spill kit, SOS board etc.

In a Mini though I'd certainly advise running it at a sensible ride height and a sump guard as an absolute minimum!

OK cool thanks. I keep wanting to do one and have my eye on Bramley Targa next year. I marshalled last year at it so know it isn't too rough, my Alfa got round it ok going to post. I have a sump guard but the ride height isn't sensible at the moment  so I have a few jobs to do over the new lockdown and a few £'s to find on a few parts!
