Hi,

I’ve bought an expensive epoxy primer to spray onto the bare metal shell. I’ve applied the first coat, is three coats enough?
Also do I need to spray on another type of primer over the epoxy or can the top coat go straight on it?

Thanks

You won’t need three coats of epoxy. One should do followed by a filler primer.

Like most paints there'll be a window for overcoating.
For example lechler 29107 epoxy can be over coated without sanding if it's within the 24 hour window, otherwise it needs a light sanding.
Check the TDS of your particular product

I've recently sprayed panels with custom 421 (https://www.rust.co....om-421-grey--36) epoxy primer. I rang them and they said 2 coats minimum. Pretty sure you can spray straight on top, depending on the paint.

Is the epoxy a sanding or non sanding type?

If it's a sanding type, you can apply more as it has build so can be treated like high build primer.

If its non sanding, you wont need any more than 2 coats. Just make sure that the first coat is light followed by a full coat

400 to 600 depending on your topcoat system would be my uneducated choice.3000 may not have enough "bite", Steve..

400 is my preference if dry sanding.

800 if wet sanding
