I have gone with Peter S Taylor, a realistic price.£125, for 2 drivers.

Sat waiting on the phone for a while with some companies. On line quotes don’t work because the 998 engine replaced with a 1275 unit.

Alex was very good so have gone with them. A Telephone quote take 30 mins or so got fed up with the time taking calls to maybe save £5

Strangely windscreen excess was £90, I only paid £45 for the laminated screen?

I recently got my renewal notice for my two Minis, the 1964 Cooper 'S' Historic Rally Car and the 1990 Rover Cooper rally car, from Hagerty. The total premium had gone up from around £470 to a new figure of £560 for both.

I tried to call Hagerty to discuss this, but was on hold each of the 4 times I tried to call for up to 30 minutes without any answer.

I emailed asking for someone to call me back at a time when I would be in (all day one day and all morning the next day) but there was no return call.

In the end I called A-Plan (who own Peter Taylor I believe) and a real person answered immediately. The result was that today I got both cars insured at the agreed values of £50,000 for the Cooper 'S' and £13,000 for the 1990 Rover Cooper for a total premium of £375.

If anyone is interested you might like to call Emma at A-Plan on 01635 874646. All I had to do was to send the technical specifications, some photos and have a brieff discussion about the modifications for rallying, pay the premium and I was covered.

Highly recommended.

Did you have to list the mods? Cage, engine, suspension etc?

I guess because my background is in aviation, I have complete specifications for each car which detail everything done by way of restoration and preparation for rallying.

I have a section for each aspect, e.g; Body, Engine, Suspension, Transmission, Interior, Safety, Electrical. I sent these by email together with loads of photos of each car showing overall views, interior and engine bay. Emma did ask me some general questions, but in general the tech Specs provided all the answers. Mileage is up to 1000 miles per annum for each car.

I expected to have to get an independent appraisal for each car, but the specs and photos seem to have been sufficient. I was so pleased with the overall service, the understanding and, not least, the price.

I do recommend then for modified classic Minis, but I guess standard ones would be good with them as well.
