Hi everyone.
Just wondering why do mini have loop bolts at the back and hook at the front for holding the battery down? Is there a practical reason for this?

On my mk1 the battery hold down does not fit which ever way I try to adjust it. It has a dedicated piece of wood holding the battery in place. Were these different from later clamps, mine seems to be wrong?

Yes, same, positive earth still although I'm not sure that makes any difference to the way its held down? I'll pop a question on the mk1 forum.

It's very likely that it's because batteries have become smaller, as they have become more efficient over the years.

May well be that modern batteries are smaller after all, I bought a new one this year too, should have just got a bigger one, I'll know the next time!

I haven't bought a proper mini battery for years but the clamp doesn't fit normal modern batteries properly. This is a pic I pulled off the net but it's how the clamp should fit. You need a tall, narrow battery without a 'step' around the top edge. Terminals should be on the opposite side to the bracket.
That setup looks a lot better than mine currently, with the terminals sitting adjacent to where the hold down bar is. Hate having that metal bar so close to both terminals.
