Wrong end of the stick? ....this week I can't even find the forest

I was thinking it might be a non-age related plate.

J (followed by one to three numbers) would have be a 1903-1922 Durham plate IF it wasn't followed by 3 numbers ....so it definitely is a 1991 plate.

Seller replied.

Appears genuine.

Admits the reg isnt correct and likely error at the dvla but it is registered legally as he showed me.

I wonder if DVLA intended to issue a J suffix plate as opposed to a J prefix plate by mistake.
Would still make it 1970 though 3 years after the car was built.

Interesting anomaly.

As above lots of cars on transferring their old 3 letter 3 digit numbers were re registered on an A suffix plate, as was my Mk1 Mini but as it actually is a 1963 car it doesn't look out of place. Just wish it had its original "14 LAO".

We have a set of 4, L 444 *** prefix plates in our family with our initials, the certificate of retention clearly says that they cant be put on a car older than 1993/4 which is what the L prefix plates were issued to originally.

Auto numerology is interesting (well to me anyway, I'll get my anorak  :shy: )

No matter how or why it happened, it is strange the owner hasn't tried to correct it with the DVLA, but instead bought a cherished reg to display on the vehicle!
