I have recnetlly changed my dizzy from a Ducellier to a Lucas 59D. When setting the timing, I cant retard it enough as the vacuum advance hits the oil pressure switch (think thats what it is, it's about 10 or 11 oclock from the dizzy). I can't even get close to the 5 degrees before TDC that I need. How do I get round this?
Someone suggested I rotate the dizzy drive in the block a little, which makes sense - but is it a good idea?

It sounds like you have it in the wrong way round !
When the rotor arm is pointing at where no1 cyclinder lead connects to the cap, is the rotor arm pointing at no1 cylinder ? Ie. NNE if you where looking on a compass....

It's probably more SEE which is 90 degrees from where you suggest. So, do I -
Step 1 - rotate dizzy 90 degrees clockwise
Step 2 - move the HT leads round one postion ANTI clockwise
(My leads are on correct 1 3 4 2, 1 being closest to the rad.)
or am think to simplistic?

is the engine pinking?? if its not then why retard it further!! as long as its not pinking run it as advanced as u can!!
failing that do as the man says above and turn the dizzy thru 90 degrees clockwise and move your leads round!

Yeah, it is pinking when under load, plus I just want to make sure it's set properly for piece of mind really.
Cheers folks.
