Well the time has finally come to crack on with the Mini and attack the next problem.

So not having much experience in this field I'm hoping the knowledge of those here can help. I have now removed both doors to have a look at the door jams near the hinges. Its a mess

So before I start I had a look around the whole front to see what options I have when tackling this and hopefully give you a full view of what I'm dealing with and hopefully aid with coming up with the best action. Whole front end is in very good condition with very little surface rust on top and underneath the wings, drivers side wing is new and passengers side is original and the scuttle is new also by the looks of it. So for some reason i don't know why they did not fix this problem when they done the other jobs either way its now my problem and looking forward to this challenge.

I'm not sure what panels I should be looking for .

Wings

Driver side wing was only welded in 3 places and is easy to come off, where the wing joins the scuttle it is already loose once I removed the sealant

Passengers side is solid.

Thanks

This is a good video that shows how the A post is constructed:

You may get an idea of the bits you may need.

And possibly a fellow Scot as well.

Was also going to say the left hand wing needs to come off. The corrosion you have touched on there goes deeper than meets the eye, and with a mini rust always starts behind.

What are you expectations? What tools do you posses?how tenacious are you?Removing the screen and dash enables access to the eyeball area.If you want a project cut all the front off and replace inner wings, scuttle front panel A panels and wings.Depending on your skills, budget, will etc this could be a week or 10 years or never.I would try my hardest to repair that with as much in situ as I could but I would also replace the sills.Do not think I am trying to discourage you;far from it.Resist the temptation to charge in and remove too much.Take small bites, order door post repairs, repair the flitch with as much sheet steel as required.Stand back and admire your new talents.Good luck,Steve..

Yeah im thinking of removing the whole front end to get in about those areas it does look suspicious.

This isn't a full on restoration as at the moment I dont have the cash and I want to enjoy the car aswell. So it will be rolling in and out the garage when needed.
I think I have nearly every tool you can think of in the garage, majority left by my dad when he passed who was a mechanic so I seem to be sorted in that department. I have a little knowledge from when we both built my last.mini but it was not in the same rust state as this one and reasonably good with my hands so I accept most challenges so advice from you guys is a big help. I have been learning to weld so all is coming together nicely so why not just jump into the deep end haha....
Might be a idea to start a topic in the projects to help me along when needed.
