I've done the Sydney - Adelaide - Sydney run may times, a few in a Mini, I wouldn't do it these days, but in the 80's I came back from Adelaide in under 14 hrs - including breaks - in one of my GTs O_O

Excuse my ignorance, I never realised how big Australia REALLY is - intrigued by your above statement I checked on Google maps - and got carried away by making a virtual roundtrip, which apparently takes a bloomin 135 hours of continous driving :ohno: :D

Sorry for going off topic here.

It is pretty big, yes. I've not looked at a drive distance / time for a circumnavigation on Highway 1, but that doesn't surprise me. Australia is roughly the same land area as the USA. Putting in roughly 12 hour driving days, in the Moke (and that doesn't muck around), it takes me around 5 days to drive from Perth to Sydney. If you click on the link in my Signature, you'll see some of the trips our group has done in our Mokes :proud:

This might put it in another perspective.

Off topic sorry .. but that's why I flew everywhere: Sydney, Adelaide, Alice Springs, Cairns, Brisbane and back to Sydney ... the only driving in just under three weeks was on Kangaroo Island and in Brisbane to get to Australia Zoo.

Oh ... and I loved it! Watched the sun rise and set on Ularu!! (That was a long day!)

Hi guys,

Finally got an update on this since we made some progress and now we have the gearbox and block back... plus some questions :)

Gearbox covers have been vapour blasted and gearbox is ready for assembly. Yesterday I picked up the pistons, block, head and crank

Went with 1310cc Hypatec pistons and the Kent 266 Camshaft.

My question is related to the next step and ordering parts. Using the 266 cam, do I need to go the roller rockers or standard will suffice? From all the search I've done it looks

like I definitely need the 1.5 but can't find enough information and decide whether I need rollers or standard.

Also, what would you recommend for timing gear?

Cheers,

Chris

You don’t need 1.5 rockers and you don’t need roller rockers.

if you need 1.5 rockers you have the wrong cam. Get the next up.

Roller rockers can help reduce valve guide wear in high lift race builds.

I did build a 1293 a little while back that had a 266 Cam in it. Personally, I'd stick with the 1.3 Rockers. I did try the 1.5's but didn't like it, it lost some of it's easy drivability.
