Hi I’m trying fit some LED strip lighting under my dash just to light up the floor when I open the doors, any ideas how to do it ? Also would like a strip in the boot if possible
I want them to come on when I open the actual door so if I open the driver side it lights up driver and passenger footwell togeather ?

The lights will need an independant power, then feed both -ve to the earth circuit for the doors switches (purple wire). For the boot, not sure. Was tempted to do it, but i have a torch on my phone, so didn't bother.

Cheers matey so if I cut into the purple wire from the door switch and connect this to the neutral of the LEDs ? do I need to do this both sides or just one side and join them together?
And the independent power is that a switched live ?
Maybe a cigarette packet drawing 😂 would help

In one build I did with my son a few years back, we fitted round 'puk' type LEDs under the Parcel Trays for Footwell lighting. They are connected up as per Steve's suggestion above. We also added LEDs in to the Doors, a white one to shine on to the ground (so you can see that puddle before stepping in to it) and 2 Red ones in the Trailing Edge so that approaching traffic could hopefully see the edge of the open door.

I apologise for the poor focus on these photos, it was a new camera that was defective

 

 

I did also fit a Florescent Light in the boot. I fitted a Micro Switch that was operated by the catch on the lock. Sorry I don't have any file photos. It was a little of a fiddle to fit, but on this car particularly, as it was a dark colour, the inside of the boot would have been like a cave without lighting. I used a Fluorescent Light as at that time, there wasn't the wide variety of LEDs that are about today, if I was to do one again, an LED is what I'd use for sure.

I used (2) 12" long led strips wired to the push button door switch, my lights come on when you open either door. I did it about 7 years ago so my memory is a little vague. IIRC I ran power from each switch and grounded each to stud on the steel part of the parcel shelf, the push button switch is grounded by the screw holding it in. I secured the led to the underside of the dash with 4mm rivnuts. This is a photo from Classic Minis Japan of my floor mats that show the footwell lights. The second photo is the type of led I used.
