As most individuals on here my first official on the road car was a Mini and a Jet Black which was 7 years old when I got it and generally pretty rotten. That was in 95 and as usual a Mini just becomes part of your DNA, I have had far better cars since, faster, comfier and general just far better than a Mini ever could be. However having that connection the feelings and fun that a Mini bring I have wanted to bring one back and also with a ten year old son a project and experiences that can be shared.

So after many years and also the green light from the lady of the house a TT 3.2 fun car was dispatched and the hunt for a Mini year as on.

What we have is a 92 SPI converted to Carb, low miles and generally a cared for life but does have some history. Pics first and I will build the detail and use this as a build diary.

Lovely. Mine is also a ‘92 SPI which was converted to a carb before I bought it but I’ve never driven it in the 7 years I’ve owned it LOL. It’ll get some loving ONE day

So some basics for the mid one to get it going following some tinkering this week ahead of being taxed and back out in the lovely weather we have!!

Original Cooper
47k miles, MOT data appears to back this up.
SPI to Carb - could do with a carb wiring loom to strip all the SPI items out.
As we can see arches and 13x7 on 175x50 rubber
Downside has sunroof which wasn’t something I really wanted but compromise was in order as the headlining is great.
Retrimmed front, rear, door cards.
Push button start with three gauge pod - another task to change to flat dash really.
Sun visors are green acrylic, alloy hard ware and new wheel.
Quick shift installed combined with fly off handbrake.
Rear subframe replaced and spruced up with GAZ shocks, new bushes, minifins, hoses etc.
Front subframe good, needs the same refresh but GAZ shocks fitted.
2nd alloy fuel tank and also alloy radiator.
Minivator hinges.

So oil change and filter done this week and a clean up. It’s a solid car but has its rough edges as would be expected from a none restored Mini. A new front has been on at some stage.

This is a Mini for my 10year old and I to play with, so it needs to keep rolling as well as refresh to keep the interest before the “big” off once we decide on the body.

Looks very Nice! My 5 year old son spots every mini on the Road and is already a big fan 🙂. he does likes the 'big' mini's the most. With Big he means the new ones.

Old mini's are quite rarely seen here in Belgium.
