The reverse rims were never intended for cars with 'S' brakes. They were for drim braked and 997/998 Cooper 7" discs.
The 7" discs are ok so long as top quality pads are fitted. When I ran a 998 Cooper I used DS11 pads with Competition fluid and it stopped fine, but pads didn’t last long.
The comparison with drums is made by comparing with twin leading-shoe drums. However, when the 7" discs were fitted, drum brakes were single leading shoe and they were nowhere as good as the 7" discs.
What I don't quite understand is why someone would not fit 7.5" discs and normal 4.5" S wheels and thus not need arch extensions, if arch extensions are not wanted. I just get away with 5" x 10" BWA alloys without extensions.
