Whilst stripping the front end of the car for some work that Is needing done, i noticed some dodgy parts in my wiring so since I'm at a stage it is easy to strip it right out and have a look over.

I am no electrician or mechanic so got my book out and looked over the loom and remarked and confirmed what everything was though there was a few wires which was not connected to anything, now I also looked online for stuff on the Megajolt but mine seems wired differently so thought is see if you guys can help me out and see if we can rearrange and tidy up this mess. Please let me know either way if this is correct or can be done a better way. It did work when on the car when i drove it but i dont know the history and looking at the loom its a mess and needs tidying up.

As you can see wires have been cut but are not used but... when looking they have used a different format to what I have seen online.

BLACK CABLE connects to another black cable and gets earthed out which was behind the dash next to the Megajolt

WHITE CABLE goes to a yellow cable which then goes all the way to the instrument connector area bends back on itself and connects to a white and black cable which goes all the way down to a horrible mess which I'm assuming is the tacho cable, you'll find in the centre of picture below was all taped up and has two connectors on it (connected to coil at some point??)

RED CABLE goes all the way down and connects to a thicker red cable along with two other black cables going of to cable EDIS4 connector and coil pack connector.

BLUE CABLE Connects to a shielded cable with additional cable inside been cut short. this runs the the EDIS4 connector. As you can see in the picture below brown wire from the shielded cable connects to EDIS4 and another brown wire then connects to the actual copper from the shielded covering.

Don't worry about the striped green tape Im just using it as a marker for things that need to be cleaned up. Forgot to mention the thick RED CABLE goes to the fuse box so im assuming this could be the live feed??

With megajolt you normally use tails of wires from the Ford components EDIS, coil pack, VR sensor etc so that is maybe why the colours change through your loom.

That's a complete dogs dinner.

You can buy all of the connectors except the EDIS plug. If it were me, I'd strip all of that out and chuck it in the bin. Buy the new connectors, some lengths of wire in a range of colours, some wire wrap, and redo the lot.

You're going to spend a heap of time repairing the damage done by all the joins and chances are you'll then run into reliability problems.

Anyway, that said.

Are you powering the coilpack from the Megajolt (to enable the hard-cut rev limiter)? If you are then you should only have one power supply into the Megajolt and one into the EDIS unit. So find your ignition switched +ve connection and match it to the correct pins.

In terms of -ve connections, there is one on the Megajolt, one for the coil and one from the EDIS unit, you'll also need to 'ground' the position sensor shielding. Ideally they should connect at the same point (there is an explanation why in the manuals).

In general there should be, on the MJ plug:

  • ignition switched (on-while-cranking) +ve
  • -ve
  • an output to the tach/rev counter (looks like you know that one)
  • two connections to the EDIS module (saw/pip)
  • +ve connection to the coil (if using hard rev limit)

On the EDIS you should have

  • ignition switched (on-while-cranking) +ve
  • -ve
  • two connections to the MJ (saw/pip)
  • a shielded connection to the crank position sensor (the shielding should be connected to -ve
  • two connection to the coil pack (coil A & B)

And on the coilpack

  • ignition switched (on-while-cranking) or MJ sourced +ve
  • two connections to the EDIS unit (coil A & B)

And that's it. Everything else is optional for shift lights, user outputs/input, etc..

Pin outs for the EDIS haven't changed....ever? So you should be able to identify those by position and trace them back to the MJ plug. Equally, I don't think the MJ pin outs have changed for...ever...either, so if you can spot the +ve and -ve connections you can orientate yourself and find the rest.

Hi Weely.

Yes, that is a bit of a mess. Apologies for the big image, it's really only the bottom of the diagram you need for the MJL.

Wiring diagram notes.

As far as I recall the colour codes for the coil pack in my diagram are the original Ford harness colours (U/W is blue with a white stripe, B/W is black with white stripe and U/Y is blue with a yellow stripe).

Pin numbers missing on the EDIS and MJL are connections not used in my install.

Outer screen for the VR sensor and MJL should be taken as close to the connectors as possible but only grounded at the EDIS end.

Regarding your wiring, the cable to the instrument cluster will be for a change up light or tachometer signal.

Do you have any MegaJolt documentation?

Much appreciated for the replies.
Took off all the black nasty tape to fine even more surprises, happy I took this off now.
I could have a go at fixing the main loom but it will take time and then sorting the megajolt but to be honest it's that bad looks like I'll buy a new main loom for the car. Then start again making a new loom for the megajolt

The wire going to the instrument cluster doesn't actual go into the connector it bends back on itself down the loom connects onto a white and black cable which goes all the way down to where the old cool would have been and connects to nothing. Oh I've no documentation bought the car as it is only stickers on the parts that's all.

Yeah just spoke to him. Thanks
