Hi all,

Below is a link to the video showing the detonation (as seen through the coulourtune). This is on cylinder 1 and you can see the spark testers in red on the adjacent cylinders.

As previously mentioned, I did try this through cylinder 2 and did not have the same issue.

Appreciate any help in identifying why this is happening.

Cheers.

That's really random as the title suggests got to be distributor related, have you swapped that plug ? just to eliminate as a second guess

Thanks for your post.

The flash is inside the colourtune. I did try and put the colourtune of cylinder two and no erratic flash but there again, I couldn't get a nice blue colour when I tried adjusting the mixture.

I was hoping someone may have seen this before.

Hiya, I've changed all the plugs but the message I was trying to get across is that this occurs with the colourtune in place of the plug. With the plug in place, I can't see what effect the spark has but you can still hear the slight flat spot/hesitation on idle.

The other thing that has stumped me is why the timing mark is now also only flashing erratically and not appearing stationery or in synch with the timing light.

Cheers.

As already said, service the ignition - plugs, leads, cap, rotor arm, points, condenser.
Use quality components.

If it's only one plug and always the same regardless of the HT lead, plug cap or plug it will probably be the distributor esp pickup in cap.

Check also for wear in the distributor shaft as it might be moving the rotor arm away from the cap pick-up losing the spark momentarily.

Swap out or replace the components one at a time otherwise you never know what fixed it or whether it has introduced a new problem.
