[DUF2]

I have read the Headline Fitting Instructions in the FAQ, but am not convinced I am doing things correctly as mu headlining still appears a bit loose. As a result I have not yet started to glue the headliner.

I have fitted headlinings in the  past to Ford Escorts, Chrysler Avengers & Sunbeams and had no problems with them, if I recall they had a bit more stretch in them.

As you can see from the photos it appears that the fabric is a tad loose between the rails.

is there anyway the headliner can be shrunk after gluing to tighten and take up the slack and remove the   creases?

or am I doing something fundamentally incorrect?

Gently heat the fabric with a hair drier and pull tight. Temporarily hold in place with Bulldog likes you have. When you have taken all the stretch out, glue one section at a time. It takes a lot of patience to get the headlining nice and tight but well worth it. One of the most satisfying jobs on a Mini if you do it well!

Hi I have recently fitted mine, I used super strong spring clamps and put tension on the lining adjusting every couple of days to remove any sagging, it took about 2 weeks to get a really good look not perfect by any means but it does look good.

I would recommend front to back tension first then side to side just be patient when its starting to look something like use a heat gun and start to glue heat will help the lining to relax more. Secondly when you refit both windscreen rubbers you get a bit more tension.

Are the headliner supports all supposed to be vertical? When I pull the headliner tight in the screen opening and the back window aperture, the first and last rails lean towards the opening and are no longer vertical.

It is as if the pockets for the supports are slightly further apart than the holes in the gutter rail.

On the B pillar, what height is the fold on the fabric?

what I mean is how far down the B Post does the headliner go.?

Just checking I have the supports in the correct order.

I know it is supposed to be front to rear  Red, White, White, Black, Blue, Yellow.

the colours on mine are almost indistinguishable.

Can anyone advise how to identify them please?

Which adhesive is recommended for gluing the headlining?

I have a can of spray trim adhesive, but I’m concerned about overspray etc. I’m thinking brush application may be best.

I used evostick contact adhesive applied with a small brush but check on a a patch of paint that doesn't show as it melts certain finishes.

GraemeC, never thought of that. Presumably you mean the thin stuff that comes on a roll, how wide do you use?  Is it reposition able or an impact type adhesive that only gives you one shot?

Any suggestions on a supplier?

Yes on a roll, I think I used about 3/4”-1” wide carpet tape so it would wrap around the window flanges and stick on both sides. It is repositionable if needed.

I install the whole headlining ‘dry’ using short lengths of old side window seals to hold it in place (find it easier than clips). Then go back and apply the tape to one window at a time.
