Ok.. Appealing to the Mini Electrical Guru's...

British  (I'm currently living in Spain hence the plates) 1993 Mini City, 1275 Auto

I've recently refurbed my engine compartment, pulled all the carpet up and disassembled the dash, swapped all inline fuses with blades as the connections were constantly and PIA..... Crimped, tested multimeter, and heat shrinked all connections.. Halfed fuse ratings based on what I could find for differences between glass and blade fuse rating. ...

All back together now..

Sorted all my issues except the Indicator / Hazard / Interior light inline fuse keeps blowing as soon as power is applied to the car.. Whether they are on or not.. On occasion the fuse has held for a moment or two and all indicators would work, interior light would work, no hazards though...I've walked the fuse rating up to 20A blade fuse, but getting concerned...

For the most part, as soon as I put the battery cable on I can hear it blow..

I've checked and cleaned all bulbs and sockets except side repeaters (but on the odd occasion the fuse has held those have worked)..  No change

I've swapped hazard switch, cleaned hazard switch.. No change.

I've changed the flasher. No Change..

Taken all the bulbs out  (except the side repeaters) no change still blows..

I've disconnected the indicator stalk (both plugs)... no change still blows..

I've blown about 20 fuses.. starting to get pissed.. and not in a good way.. LOL. Any help, tricks or tips would be great..

Sounds to me like a dead short have you checked all the loom in the engine bay ? you may have trapped or crushed a cable perhaps

how is the reverse light circuit wired on an auto ?

on a manual the reverse switch is on the selector housing and if the loom isn't fixed in place securely can short out against the exhaust, giving the same symptoms you're seeing

From the drawings, the line fuse on Purple orange wire LF1 should be 15A glass.

It should have a brown wire in fuse then out as purple orange, from there it goes to the hazard flasher and the internal light check it hasnt been cut on the firewall and check the hazard flasher wire isnt damaged.

Could try trace the short, take the fuse out check from the dead side of the fuse purple and orange to ground should be low sub 1 ohm (12/1 = 12A). Take the hazard flasher out ( coil internally could be shorted ) check continuity to ground again if its open circuit the flasher is your problem if its still to ground its either on the internal light or a wireing loom fault. Take the wire of the internal light check continuity if still bad then wireing fault.

What I'd do is fit the bulbs and then I'd disconnect all the wiring plugs at the light units.

Now connect each unit, checking the fuse in between connecting each light unit up.

I think it could well be the reverse light switch wiring melted on the exhaust (I had this issue but it blew the top fuse on the 4 fuse box, not the inline fuses.

Hope this helps

Awesome input.. I didn't even think of the reverse possibly causing issue.. I'll check the loom for crushed, pinched or snagged wires... I'll see to this tomorrow (Tuesday) and we'll see if we can't get this going by Christmas..

Ok.. think I've found the issue.. Wire touching metal... Button for drivers side door interior light... But can't really address it as I'm stuck roadside waiting on a tow truck.. Fuel issue now... Lol.. Doing a shake down after reassembly.. fun times.. locking washer fell off.. Lost one of the bolts on the alternator... Had to do a roadside fix.. will update once one had a chance to address electrical..

That courtesy light switch could be the issue.

Check the float valve and bowl for crud, I'd advise fitting a fuel filter

That shouldnt be the issue since the live goes straight to the bulb then the ground is switched via the switch on the fitting or the switch in the door, its current limited by the bulb. Purple and white wire?
