Hi, I'm rebuilding a 1988 998cc A+, keeping it all stock.  Head studs were removed from block and rocker shaft pedestal studs  were removed from head during  engine disassembly.  Now I can't find any manual that gives the torque specs to fit the studs to the block and to the head.  (So I'm not after the torques for the nuts to fit the head and the rocker shaft - those are in the manual)

Searching the web, I've found this:

head to block studs:  42 lb/ft

rockers shaft pedestals to head stud: 22-25 lb/ft

...but on an thread here,  60lb/ft is given for the head to block studs ..?

Anybody know what the right specs are?

Thanks

Spin the studs into the block hand tight then simply torque the nuts up in sequence when the head is on.

When it comes to running the engine, use plain water until the head gasket seals

Thank you cal844 .  Buy why only water in the initial engine run-in, instead of water + coolant mix?

Only water makes the gasket swell quicker than with coolant mix, it's whats recommended on here and I can confirm it does work

Doesnt make a gasket swell. Its because coolant mix is more capillary than pure water.
